Little Crum Creek Park Restroom

A public restroom is an essential amenity that makes a community park more accessible and welcoming to everyone. With proper maintenance, this basic infrastructure investment promotes public health and sanitation, while supporting all community members’ ability to participate in outdoor activities, social gatherings, and community events with comfort and dignity.

Planning

Responding to community needs, we began exploring the feasibility of building a public bathroom in Little Crum Creek Park in March 2024. Over the last year, we have worked with Swarthmore Borough Council members and Public Works, along with the Friends of Little Crum Creek Park, to determine the requirements of park users, stakeholders, site installation, and maintenance. After obtaining estimates from several companies specializing in pre-fab public park restrooms, we have received the most competitive estimate from CorWorth Restroom Facilities.

Proposed Installation and Maintenance

The proposed restroom will be a wood framed building with lap siding exterior and standing seam metal roof on an attached 8" thick concrete slab foundation (stained and sealed).

Other features include vitreous china fixtures (toilet, sink); FastAire HD03 hand dryer; stainless steel mirror; entry posts and truss; energy efficient LED lighting inside and outside; energy efficient tankless on-demand water heater; floor drains; hose and reel; steel doors w/ mag locks; motion sensors and timer; all internal electrical and plumbing included.

The building is guaranteed to be compliant with both ADA and building code. The restroom is planned to be open spring through fall; Swarthmore Public Works will maintain the facility.

Budget and Timeline

The cost of the restroom building is approximately $190,000, which has been committed by the Swarthmore Centennial Foundation. Costs of site prep and installation are estimated at approximately $60,000, which would be split between funding from Swarthmore Borough and other sources.
